Arsenal vs Aston Villa: Key Facts

Jack Wilshere is ready to start against Aston Villa on Sunday according Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal manager. The 24-year-old has missed the majority of the Gunners’ season with a broken leg but returned to action last month with a brace of U21 appearances before featuring off the bench against Sunderland and Manchester City in the Barclays Premier League.

Wenger’s side are hoping to steal second place from Tottenham Hotspur and the Frenchman believes Wilshere should also be selected for England’s UEFA Euro 2016 campaign despite a lack of match time.

“He can start,” said Wenger. “He played [66] minutes in a very intense game [against Manchester City]. I believe he can start; I haven’t decided yet but there is no problem as to why he couldn’t start. I consider him a player who is ready to play.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (knee) will miss out against Villa, but Mesut Ozil (thigh) is back in training and Tomas Rosicky, Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini could be in contention for a final appearance in Arsenal colours.
