Dennis Bergkamp: Why He Is An Arsenal Legend

When it comes to Arsenal legends, there’s perhaps no one further up the list than Dennis Bergkamp. The Dutch forward joined the Gunners in 1995 from Inter Milan, costing the Premier League side a cool £7.5 million. Not an insignificant fee 20 years ago.

Bergkamp’s time with the North London side secured his place on the list as one of the all-time greats with the Netherlands star scoring an incredible 120 goals in 423 games for Arsenal.

Eleven years with the Premier League side was more than enough time for Bergkamp to win a number of trophies with the club. During his time with the Gunners the forward secured ten trophies, including three Premier League titles and four FA Cups.

Such was the significance of Bergkamp’s time with Arsenal that the No.10 was honoured with a statue in 2014, which now has pride of place outside the Emirates Stadium.

One of Arsenal’s great idols, Bergkamp formed a tremendous understanding for the side with Thierry Henry and together the two talented forwards led their side into a period of silverware and glory.

Tuesday marked Bergkamp’s 47th Birthday and the striker’s efforts in the English game deserve top praise at every available moment. One of the best to grace the Premier League ever.
