Welbeck To Miss Euro 2016?

Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck is rated doubtful for the European Championship finals after picking up a knee injury in the all-important weekend clash against Manchester City. The England starlet was forced to come off early on through a knee problem, with Jack Wilshere replacing the forward midway through the first period.

And while further scans will show the full extend of the injury, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger fears Welbeck may be in danger of missing out on the European Championship finals.

“The first signs look like lateral meniscus,” Wenger told reporters at a post-match press conference.

“He looks down, and he’s not a guy who likes to go off. I’m a bit worried. I don’t want to say about the Euros – let’s be a bit more optimistic.”

The highly rated footballer had only returned into action in February after spending ten months on the sidelines, and he has rediscovered his form surprisingly quickly.

But, Welbeck then picked up a knee injury at a bad time, just several days before England manager Roy Hodgson is set to announce his preliminary squad for the Euro 2016.

The Arsenal forward will be hoping to be included on the list, and he is not the only one fearing for his place, as Jack Wilshere’s inclusion is far from certainty, with the midfielder having missed a large part of the current season.

He, nonetheless, looked sharp in the two matches he has featured in this term, and considering that Hodgson is not exactly spoilt for options in the middle of the park, Wilshere has a good chance of being on the plane to France.
