This May Not Be A Good Move For Both Leicester City And Arsenal

Jamie Vardy
Arsenal have encountered difficulties in recent seasons with their options up-front, as main striker Olivier Giroud struggles with consistency, while alternatives Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott remain on the sidelines with injury for extended periods of time. The Gunners saw their goalscoring tally and title challenge falter following the turn of the year, and manager Arsene Wenger will be expected to find an answer in the upcoming transfer window.

A Tweet from Guardian journalist Stuart James claim the club have activated Jamie Vardy’s release clause, though he may not be the solution supporters are hoping for.

Much has been made of Vardy’s rise from lower league obscurity to Premier League champion, scoring 24 goals for the Foxes this season and earning a call-up to the Euros with England. Although several teams are reportedly interested in the 29-year-old, it would be difficult to predict whether the striker would be able to repeat his performances at a different team.

The Foxes have relied heavily on the player for their results this season, and losing Vardy could prove to be disastrous for their title defence hopes, as well as European campaign. Leicester City’s counter-attacking style has largely benefited Vardy, with the player able to use his speed to run behind the back line and latch onto long through-balls.

However, Arsenal employ very different attacking tactics, preferring to open up defences using a short-passing game. While the centre-forward may be excellent at finishing chances presented, there’s no denying that Vardy’s passing is not among his strengths, and could struggle to match this season’s results with the Gunners.
