Kanu - Don't Tell Ozil to Defend

The Russia 2018 World Cup has come and gone but it has left some scars on Mesut Ozil. The German play maker was targeted by the county's media and made a scapegoat after Germany were dumped out of the World Cup. Ozil's performance has always been a mater of debate with the latest unwelcome attention from the German media leading to his international retirement.

Ozil is not new to receiving criticism, hes has been criticised at club level, with new manager Unai Emery stating earlier this week that he needs to step up his defensive game and a lot of fans and pundits share the same view with the manager who's yet to win a Premier League game except Kanu Nwankwo who thinks Mesut Ozil's creative talents should be utilised instead of asking him to work hard on ball recovery.

Kanu who played for Arsenal under former manager Arsene Wenger went ahead to defend Ozil saying " Every player is different. What you need is his strength, not his weakness. He can work on his weakness but you can change him." "Either you accept him or you let him go.
You don’t want Maradona or Messi to go back and defend, you want them to go and do what they know how to do.
Kanu during his playing days was like Mesut Ozil and was able to produce unexpected things  at any time, the former Nigeria international went on in his defence of Ozil: "it’s a style of play, the coach has to accommodate that and make room for Mesut to play in that manner. I don’t know why people are still complaining a lot about him."

Ozil was in Arsenal's starting XI that lost last weekend to Chelsea at Stamford bridge and will be hoping to overcome West Ham when they visit the Emirate Stadium tomorrow. Arsenal will be hoping to grab their first win of the season and the first win of Unai Emery era in the Premier League.
