It's all over the internet that former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger jetted into Liberia yesterday to ahead of being giving the country's highest honour by his former player George Weah, who is now the President.

Wenger signed George Weah in 1988 when he was in charge of Monaco, this move was the start of big things for the Liberian international which saw him rise very quickly and became the only African player to win the World Player of the Year, in 1995.

George Weah after leaving football in 2003 ventured into politics was an instant hit with the people of Liberia which helped him in winning the Presidential election in a landslide victory in January of 2018.

Yesterday Arsene Wenger who was in charge of the gunners for 22 years but stepped down at the end of last season arrived at the Roberts International Airport in Liberia ahead of his induction into Liberia's Order of Distinction and given the title of Knight Grand Commander of the Humane Order of African Redemption by his former player who's now the President of the country.

According to Liberia information minister, the award not only convey George Weah and Arsene Wenger's personal connection, but also that he (Wenger) has contributed to sports in Africa and has given many Africans opportunities in sports.

During Wenger's stay at Arsenal, he managed 16 players from the continent of Africa including Nigeria's Kanu Nwankwo and Cote d’Ivoire veteran Kolo Toure. The award ceremony will take place in Monrovia, the capital of Liberia on Friday.

Wenger's former side Arsenal, now under the management of Unai Emery will face their next challenge this weekend when the host the Hammers at the Emirates Stadium and the will be hoping to bounce back after consecutive losses to Manchester City and Chelsea respectively.
